Position Overview

Kiewit's Power Engineering division in Lenexa is actively seeking experienced Civil Engineers with a background in large-scale solar project development and design or related expertise.

In this role, civil engineers will primarily support initiatives related to renewable and alternative energy projects.

Key Responsibilities

The selected candidate will be tasked with conducting both preliminary and detailed designs, preparing specifications, offering permitting assistance, and providing field support. The ideal applicant will have substantial experience in the development of extensive land use facilities, which includes:

  • Stormwater management and retention design
  • Large-scale grading plans
  • Erosion control

Location

This position is based out of our Lenexa, KS office with opportunities for hybrid work arrangements.


Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence and possess the following responsibilities:

  • Independently assess, select, and implement engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria for site development projects.
  • Collaborate with various agencies to secure permits for land-intensive projects.
  • Develop designs for assigned systems, including analysis, calculations, research, and layout to create necessary design documents.
  • Utilize knowledge of departmental design standards and applicable engineering codes to review prepared drawings and documents for compliance.
  • Plan and schedule project scope to analyze staffing and budgeting needs.
  • Coordinate design efforts across all project disciplines and departments for moderate to complex projects.
  • Mentor entry and mid-level employees, reviewing work progress and providing guidance as necessary.
  • Employ civil engineering software and computer-aided drafting tools in accordance with industry standards.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers to provide expertise and support business objectives.
  • Ensure quality control of services and deliverables in alignment with Kiewit's Quality Plan.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess the following attributes:

  • A minimum of 5 years of proven civil engineering design experience in this or similar industries.
  • Strong team orientation and networking abilities.
  • High degree of self-motivation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Computer Skills

Proficiency in computer-assisted engineering and design software, preferably AutoCAD Civil 3D, along with experience in drainage calculation software like HEC-RAS 2D is advantageous. A solid understanding of spreadsheets and databases is also required.


Education and Experience

Bachelor of Science degree in a related field (e.g., civil engineering) is required. A PE license is expected.


Travel

Occasional travel to project sites may be necessary for inspections, field measurements, and assisting construction personnel in reviewing designs.
