Position Overview:

The Laboratory Operations Manager will support the Lab Director in overseeing both administrative and technical functions within the laboratory, ensuring optimal operations and high-quality patient care.

Key responsibilities include organizing workflows, enhancing processes, resolving issues, ensuring regulatory compliance, and stepping in as a staff technician when required.

This role involves supervising laboratory personnel, including direct assessment of the skills of technicians and phlebotomists, onboarding new staff, and acting as a mentor and role model.

In the absence of the Lab Director, the Laboratory Operations Manager will take charge and provide direction to the team.

Conemaugh Nason Medical Center is a 45-bed facility dedicated to serving rural and suburban communities, with a legacy of compassionate care since 1900.

Equipped with a cutting-edge cardiac catheterization lab, we offer a variety of inpatient and outpatient cardiac services, ensuring timely care when it matters most.

The hospital operates 24/7 emergency services as an accredited chest pain center and provides extensive outpatient, imaging, diagnostic, and specialty services.

As a recognized National Quality Leader in healthcare, Conemaugh Nason is at the forefront of delivering exceptional patient care.

We are part of the Conemaugh Health System, which serves over half a million patients annually through a network of hospitals, specialty clinics, and patient-centered programs.


Essential Responsibilities:
  • Demonstrate proficiency in all relevant laboratory competencies.
  • Proactively ensure staff members complete required competencies and perform patient testing accurately.
  • Maintain high standards in quality control, documentation, and corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with the Lab Director to create schedules, assign tasks, evaluate staff performance, and address personnel issues.
  • Review quality control results and maintenance logs monthly.
  • Assist with special projects as directed by the Lab Director.
  • Apply knowledge of state and federal regulations and Joint Commission standards to maintain efficient operations.
  • Participate in human resource management functions within the department.
  • Promote effective training and competency among interdepartmental personnel.
  • Ensure adherence to policies and procedures by all staff members.
  • Engage in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance departmental efficiency and service quality.
  • Fulfill the duties of a Technologist or Phlebotomist as necessary.
  • Participate in ongoing education and complete all required training programs.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment, adhering to safety policies.
  • Comply with corporate guidelines and maintain confidentiality regarding patient information.

Organizational Expectations:

Job Requirements:
Minimum Education:
MT Certification preferred.
Bachelor's or associate degree with appropriate training preferred.
Current ASCP or NCA Certification preferred.
BLS certified or willing to obtain within 6 months.

Minimum Work Experience:
3-5 years' experience as a Medical Technologist preferred.
1-2 years' experience in a Supervisory/Leadership role.

Required Skills:
Comprehensive knowledge of clinical laboratory services and equipment.
Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and prioritize tasks effectively.
Strong attention to detail and a positive attitude.
