Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Designer to join our Engineering and Architectural Services department in Sacramento. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for supporting multi-disciplinary architectural, engineering, and design teams with construction management activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare designs at various project phases, including schematic, design development, construction documents, and approvals, under the direction of the Project Manager.
  • Analyze design and construction issues to find solutions and incorporate them into the project.
  • Develop technical specifications as required.
  • Assist in preparing master plans for new building construction, meeting with clients to understand their needs, and developing space lists, square foot requirements, and preliminary floor plans.
  • Assist the Project Manager in administering construction contracts.
  • Participate in design/constructability reviews.
  • Comment on architectural issues, including cost, design, and construction technology.
  • Evaluate building and site conditions, and prepare technical reports of investigations.
  • Interpret applicable codes for compliance and apply this knowledge to documents prepared and/or reviewed to ensure compliance with those codes, standards, and requirements.
  • Assist in maintaining a log of all revisions to standard drawings and specifications, and manage the file containing current specifications and logs of all proposed changes to the standard documents.
  • Assist in performing value engineering analysis and reviews.
  • Direct the work of junior employees engaged in preparing drawings and specification documents, as directed by the Project Manager.
  • Assist the estimating department in developing conceptual and detailed cost projections.
  • Support and participate in business development and marketing efforts, including assisting with the preparation of proposals and presentations for new work.
  • Assist in developing and implementing department design and document standards.
  • Apply workplace health and safety policies and procedures to daily activities.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in architecture or a related field, or equivalent experience required.
  • Enrolled in IDP and on track for State of California architecture registration preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of position-related work experience in architecture or a related field.

Knowledge and Skills
  • Knowledge of applicable codes and standards required.
  • Effective computer skills, including proficient use of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Revit, Sketch Up, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, and specialized software appropriate to professional qualification.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to foster and maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
  • Effective organization skills, including the ability to prioritize and plan work, gather and interpret technical or abstract data to resolve difficult and uncommon problems.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and adapt to frequent change, delays, or unexpected events.
  • Ability to manage a team of professionals in the production of quality projects delivered on time and within budget.
  • Ability to demonstrate the competencies of achieving results, initiative, communication, teamwork, and analytical thinking.
