Overview:

Surgical Services Technician Role:
  • Engages in the decontamination, cleaning, assembly, packaging, scanning, sterilization, storage, and distribution of reusable surgical instruments and equipment.
  • Undertakes additional responsibilities as necessary.
Key Responsibilities
  • Essential requirements for the Surgical Services Technician include the ability to sit or stand for extended periods, frequent walking, and reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive).
  • Strong communication, auditory, and visual skills are essential.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and the ability to write clearly are required.
  • Must be capable of lifting, pushing, or pulling weights exceeding 100 pounds.
  • Potential exposure to fumes, chemicals, cold, noise, radiation, blood/body fluids, and infectious diseases.
  • Responsible for decontaminating and sterilizing instruments, medical supplies, and equipment, as well as assembling, wrapping, and sterilizing instrument trays.
  • Adheres to Standard Precautions in decontamination and sterilization environments.
  • Monitors biological and chemical wash solutions to ensure quality and consistency in the decontamination of instruments and medical equipment.
  • Sorts mismatched sets of instruments, trays, and medical equipment, ensuring timely availability for sterile processing clients.
  • Restocks, labels, and manages inventory, submits requisitions, and collects and distributes instruments, trays, crash carts, and medical equipment.
  • Performs environmental maintenance tasks and aids in maintaining inventory levels in sterile processing, operating rooms, and equipment storage areas.
  • Verifies the proper functioning of equipment, requests maintenance, repairs, or replacements, and removes defective items.
  • Maintains a tidy work environment.
  • Assists in upholding established departmental policies, objectives, quality improvement, safety, and infection control standards.
  • Communicates effectively using strong interpersonal skills.
Education & Experience Requirements:
  • Minimum of one year of relevant hospital experience is required.
