Electrical Meter Technician Position at Jefferson County PUD

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Meter Technician to join our team at Jefferson County PUD. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for installing, inspecting, testing, maintaining, and repairing electric metering equipment to ensure efficient use of materials and equipment.
Salary and Benefits:
The salary for this position is estimated at $70,000 per year, based on industry standards and local cost of living. In addition to a competitive salary, we offer a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, and prescription insurance, as well as a retirement plan with employer matching contributions. Other benefits include paid time off, holidays, and wellness reimbursement.
About the Role:
As an Electrical Meter Technician, you will work closely with our utility department to ensure consistency in data and interactions with customers. Your responsibilities will include:
- Wiring, constructing, operating, inspecting, testing, and maintaining metering and SCADA equipment.
- Assisting the substation department with low-voltage relay wiring.
- Installing, testing, repairing, and maintaining all types, sizes, and voltages of meters, including polyphase meters.
- Operating all test equipment, programming software interfaces with electronic meters and meter database support.
- Maintaining meter, CT, and other related stock in partnership with the Warehouse crew.
- Monitoring, reporting, and stocking inventory related to the Meter Department.
- Performing installation, inspection, testing, programming, maintenance, and repair of electric meters, metering equipment, and other meter-related equipment.
- Performing testing and repair of meter-related electrical test equipment and other meter-related apparatus as required.
- Assisting with the installation and maintenance of our AMI meter reading system, including gateways, repeaters, and software to interface with NISC and meters.
- Ensuring accurate and timely information from meters is reflected in CIS/Billing Department.
- Working closely with customer service and billing to ensure data accuracy.
- Performing remote disconnects and physical disconnects for customers.
- Responsible for the use, care, and security of tools, vehicles, equipment, and materials utilized.
- Training other personnel in job-related operations.
- Meeting and working with the public effectively and courteously.
- Using computer programs, including NISC.
- Assisting the substation department with the installation and maintenance of control systems and electrical apparatus on District facilities as directed.
- Completing paperwork and record-keeping associated with job functions in a neat and timely manner.
- Operating equipment such as aerial lift trucks and other equipment as needed.
- Programming, installing, and downloading voltage, current, and disturbance recorders on customers' or District equipment.
- Assisting and working with Substation personnel as needed.
- Attending safety, planning, and training meetings as required.
- Inspecting electrical contractors when working on District metering projects.
- Analyzing new meter equipment or systems for applicability to District operations.
- Organizing and maintaining meter equipment records.
- Performing and assisting in duties related to SCADA operation and electric dispatch.
- Other duties as assigned.
