The Pharmacy Technician plays a vital role in providing safe and effective pharmacy services to patients. As a key member of the pharmacy team, you will work under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist to assist in the dispensing process, data entry, and claims processing.
Key Responsibilities- Enter and process new and refill prescription orders, supply and equipment requests while maintaining productivity and quality standards.
- Filling patient orders accurately by selecting and retrieving the appropriate medications, verifying quantities, and preparing prescription labels for medications and related supplies.
- Forwarding orders to Pharmacist for completion, verification and/or clarification.
- Accurately enters data into pharmacy computer system so that appropriate paperwork is generated.
- Selecting appropriate supplies and ancillaries based on medication requirements, patient need and preference.
- Contacts patients, caregivers and prescribers as needed to secure refill authorization, initiate order clarification, and obtain information necessary to complete the patients profile and the dispense process.
- Adjudicating pharmacy claims, reviewing and resolving claim rejections; contacting insurance plans for assistance as needed.
- Assists with product purchasing, inventory and equipment management as needed.
- Ensures client specific materials are paired with order and prepare for shipment.
- The technician assists in the shipping process by: selecting appropriate packing materials and packing method and generating shipping labels.
- Prior to the end of their shift or as scheduled, clean dispensing area equipment and replenish workstation supplies.
- Providing excellent customer service to patients, internal and external customers.
- Three to five years pharmacy experience.
- Understands drug terminology and therapies/services provided in specialty pharmacy.
- Understands and can perform intermediate pharmaceutical calculations in order to obtain correct doses of medications.
- Understands the broader organizational structure and the scope of services the company has to offer.
- Maintains strict confidentiality of patient and proprietary information.
- Observes legal and ethical guidelines for safeguarding the confidentiality of patient and proprietary company information.
- Understands and complies with HIPAA.
- Participates in the process for assessing, managing, and reporting medication-related incidents and equipment error and/or failures.
- Accurately completes quality assurance forms and forwards them to the supervising pharmacist.
- In all activities, complies with accreditation, legal, regulatory, and safety requirements.
- Participates in on-call responsibilities of the pharmacy department if required.
