Job Summary

The Museum School of Avondale Estates is seeking a skilled and passionate Special Education Teacher to join our team. As a Special Education Teacher, you will play a critical role in developing and implementing differentiated lessons that cater to the diverse needs of our students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Instructional Design: Develop and implement lessons and activities that align with the museum school model, Georgia Standards of Excellence, and best practices in special education.
  • Student Support: Provide individualized support to students with special needs, ensuring compliance with IEPs and implementing strategies to promote academic and personal growth.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with general education staff and museum staff to develop thematic units, schedule Learning Expeditions, and prepare for Exhibit Nights.
  • Assessment and Data Analysis: Analyze student data to inform instructional decisions and monitor progress through formal and informal assessments.
  • Professional Development: Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities to enhance teaching practices and stay updated on best practices in special education.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field.
  • Certification: Georgia certification in Special Education.
  • Experience: Proven experience in integrating curriculum, Georgia Standards of Excellence, and effective instructional practices.
  • Special Education Experience: Experience working with K-8 students with special needs and creating standards-based lessons, units, and assessments.
  • Organizational and Communication Skills: Excellent organizational, planning, and implementation skills, as well as effective written and oral communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced Degree: Master's Degree in Education or related field.
  • Gifted Certification: Gifted certification or experience working with gifted students.
  • Instructional Methodologies: Knowledge of and experience implementing various instructional and teaching methodologies.
  • Diverse Student Population: Experience working with a diverse student population and promoting a culture of inclusivity and respect.
