Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Correctional Technician to join our team at the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office.

About the Position

This is an entry-level position in the Correctional Technician series, with opportunities for advancement to higher levels.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform a variety of duties in support of maintaining a safe and secure custody environment, including booking, processing, and monitoring of detainees.
  • Perform other related work as required, including reception, booking, control rooms, or other areas of the County Jail or Court Services.
  • May be assigned to oversee inmate activities and interact with inmates on a limited basis.
Requirements
  • Graduation from high school or possession of a General Education Development (GED) Certificate.
  • Ability to type at a speed of 35 net wpm.
  • Valid California driver's license required for certain positions.
Working Conditions
  • This is a 24-hour facility with rotating shifts.
  • May be required to work in a negative environment, including exposure to sad, disgusting, and disturbing situations.

  • A strong interest in law enforcement or corrections.
  • Excellent administrative support skills, including knowledge of common computer software and applications.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
  • Ability to effectively interact with a diverse population, including correctional deputies, arresting officers, probation staff, and administrative support staff.
