Job Summary

University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Health is seeking a skilled Respiratory Therapist to join our team on a PRN basis. As a Respiratory Therapist, you will provide direct and indirect care to patients, including diagnostic testing, treatment with pharmacologic agents, and administration of oxygen and other gas mixtures.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver high-quality patient care in a scientific and contemporary manner, consistent with the disease state, cognitive abilities, and age of the patient.
  • Perform job tasks in the ambulatory care and inpatient acute care settings, as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Participate in daily rounds with patients to ensure care and treatment are delivered consistent with the patient's established plan of care.
  • Provide safe and efficient care that is focused on patient and family-centered care models, core measures, national patient safety goals, and environment of care standards.
  • Accurately complete prescribed therapeutic procedures and bedside spirometry.
  • Perform blood gas testing, following proper pre-analytical and analytical processes, to ensure safe and accurate testing.
Requirements
  • Completion of an AMA-approved course of study in Respiratory Care.
  • Current NBRC registration as a Registered Respiratory Therapist and current license by the State of Maryland as a Respiratory Care Practitioner.
  • Certification in BCLS required.
  • ACLS certification required within 12 months of hire.
  • Certification in NRP preferred at UM UCMC and UM HMH.
  • Competency in intubation required at UM HMH, to be acquired within 3 months of hire. Intubation is optional at UM UCMC.
  • A minimum of one year acute care experience within the past three years highly preferred.
