Position Summary
Under the guidance of supervisory staff, the educator will design, execute, and assess a developmentally suitable and inclusive educational program for children enrolled in the Early Head Start/Head Start initiative. This role involves direct educational engagement with assigned children.
Compensation Structure:
- Associate Teacher Permit + Bachelor's degree: $27.64/hr DOE
- Associate Teacher Permit + Associate degree: $25.00/hr DOE
- Associate Teacher Permit + High School diploma: $23.08/hr DOE
Key Responsibilities
- Act as an educator for assigned children throughout their enrollment, ensuring safety and providing visual supervision.
- Develop, implement, and oversee a curriculum that meets developmental and inclusivity standards, adhering to Head Start Program Performance Standards and relevant policies. Conduct home visits and parent conferences as required.
- Collaborate with parents to establish and implement individual child goals. Maintain weekly lesson plans, progress notes, and required documentation. Conduct child screenings and assessments timely.
- Facilitate bi-monthly classroom meetings and contribute to the evaluation of volunteers and interns. Engage actively in staff and parent meetings, as well as in-service training sessions.
- Coordinate educational support for parents, including prenatal education and health resources.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent. Must hold and maintain a Child Development Associate Teacher Permit and meet ongoing educational requirements.
- Experience in a preschool or infant/toddler classroom setting, with at least 50 days of teaching experience within a two-year period.
- Training and experience to foster stable relationships with young children; knowledge of infant and toddler development and safety practices.
- Current pediatric CPR and first aid certification, along with a food handler's certificate.
- Completion of California-mandated Child Abuse Reporter Training and Pesticide Safety Training prior to employment.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications (e.g., Outlook, Excel).
- Ability to interpret and implement regulations from the California Department of Education and other relevant agencies.
- Effective communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups.
- Sound judgment, planning, and organizational skills.
- Physical capability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 40 lbs. Must possess fine motor skills and visual acuity.
- Ability to pass a post-offer physical examination and TB test, and provide required immunizations.
