POSITION OVERVIEW:

This role is essential in supporting the YMCA's mission of community enhancement through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Key responsibilities include ensuring a secure environment in and around the aquatic area, promoting member safety, and facilitating engagement in accordance with YMCA standards.

SHIFT AND SCHEDULE:

• 4:45 AM - 10:00 AM and/or

• 6:00 AM - 11:00 AM and/or

• 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM

LOCATION:

This position will rotate among various YMCA facilities in the Somerset Hills, Somerville, and Bridgewater areas.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Maintain vigilant oversight of the aquatic area.
  • Address member inquiries and provide necessary assistance.
  • Support the overall Aquatic team and assist with swim instruction.
  • Respond promptly to emergencies in accordance with YMCA protocols.
  • Adhere to safety regulations and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Conduct equipment inspections and ensure readiness as needed.
  • Collaborate with team members and cultivate positive relationships with members.
  • Exhibit emotional resilience and cognitive skills in fulfilling responsibilities.
  • Wear the appropriate lifeguard uniform and follow safety procedures.
  • Participate in training sessions and staff meetings.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum age requirement: 18 years.
  • Must possess valid certifications in CPR, AED, First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen.
  • Current lifeguard certification from YMCA or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet physical and mental readiness standards.
  • Proficiency in lifeguard skills according to YMCA standards.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Physically capable of performing all lifeguard responsibilities.
  • Ability to hear and respond to distress signals in the aquatic environment.
  • Remain alert and vigilant during duty hours.
  • Ensure full visibility and monitoring of assigned areas.
