About the Role

The State of Indiana is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Deputy Director and General Counsel to join our team. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for providing strategic legal guidance and support to our agency, as well as overseeing the day-to-day operations of our legal division.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide legal advice and guidance to agency leadership and management teams
  • Oversee the legal division and ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure effective and efficient legal operations
  • Manage and coordinate legal matters with outside counsel
  • Supervise and mentor legal staff to ensure they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties
  • Stay up-to-date on changes in laws and regulations and provide guidance to the agency on how to comply
Requirements
  • Juris Doctor degree and 5+ years of experience with admission to the Indiana State Bar
  • Advanced knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures, and precedents
  • Thorough knowledge of agency and/or organizational programs and business practices
  • Ability to develop and/or measure program outcomes
  • Ability to supervise others and conduct employee evaluations, staff training and development, and make hiring/termination recommendations
