Job Summary

Design Mechanical, Inc. is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Plumbing Apprentice to join our team. As a Plumbing Apprentice, you will have the opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge in the plumbing trade, working under the guidance of experienced professionals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform entry-level general pipefitting duties as required with supervision.
  • Progress through the trade, developing your skills and knowledge.
  • Develop good working and safety habits.
  • Understand terminology and the use of power and hand tools.
  • Required to obtain the mandatory tools for Level 1.
  • Attends all Design Mechanical's Apprenticeship training classes regularly and outside schooling, if available.
  • Has basic math skills.
  • Attentive to instructions and assists the journeyman in all phases of work.
  • Can document approximately 2,000 hours of employment.
  • Perform laborer tasks including sweeping, cleaning, delivering, loading and unloading, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities by Level
  • Level 1 (0-12 months)
    • Develop good working and safety habits.
    • Understand terminology and the use of power and hand tools.
    • Required to obtain the mandatory tools for Level 1.
    • Attends all Design Mechanical's Apprenticeship training classes regularly and outside schooling, if available.
    • Has basic math skills.
    • Attentive to instructions and assists the journeyman in all phases of work.
    • Can document approximately 2,000 hours of employment.
    • Perform laborer tasks including sweeping, cleaning, delivering, loading and unloading, etc.
  • Level 2 (12-24 months)
    • All Level 1 responsibilities.
    • Read non-complex blueprints and detailed drawings.
    • Required to obtain the mandatory tools for Level 2.
    • Understands simple plumbing systems.
    • Preparation of piping and fixtures before installing.
    • Help install equipment.
    • Document approximately 4,000 hours of employment.
  • Level 3 (24-36 months)
    • All Level 1 and 2 responsibilities.
    • Understands and can read architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing plans and their details.
    • Assist in layout for digging, core drilling, sleeving, etc.
    • Check grade in trenches while digging, tunneling, etc.
    • Can lay out and install small jobs with supervision.
    • Required to obtain the mandatory tools for Level 3.
    • Can document approximately 6,000 hours of employment.
  • Level 4 (36+ months)
    • All Level 1, 2, and 3 responsibilities.
    • Application for certification at local jurisdiction as required, i.e., Denver.
    • Know heating and cooling design and complete all jobs per Design Mechanical's standards.
    • Required to obtain the mandatory tools for Level 4.
    • Can complete all jobs successfully in terms of labor and material budgets.
    • Have a good understanding of plumbing systems and how they operate.
    • Can document 8,000 hrs. of employment.
    • Support the total quality effort. Identify and respond to the needs of internal and external customers 100% of the time.
    • Work within the guidelines of the safety and employee policy.
    Qualifications
    • Minimum 18 years of age.
    • High school graduate/GED.
    • Mechanical aptitude.
    • Willingness to learn through on-the-job training and technical school courses.
    • Reliable transportation to and from work required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. One will be exposed to dirt, noise, temperature extremes, vibrations, dampness, equipment movement, hazards, chemicals and solvents, lightning, ice, snow, and work at night and in the dark. The person will be expected to be free from fear of heights and can work at heights on ladders and scaffolds. Some work may occur in confined spaces.
