Job Title: Advanced Practice Provider - Orthopedics

Job Summary:

We are seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join our Duke Orthopedics Total Joint Division team. As an APP, you will provide direct patient care services in collaboration with attending physicians, requiring Total Joint Orthopedic care as well as General Orthopedics. Your primary hours will be Monday through Friday, with flexible hours to meet the needs of our patients.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide care for patients needing total joint orthopedic and general orthopedic care.
  • Coordinate patient care, including triage, physical exams, collecting and documenting data, conducting diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, ordering and scheduling laboratory studies, and prescribing appropriate interventions and medications.
  • Communicate verbally and in writing all pertinent patient information to supervising physicians, nursing staff, patient resource managers, home health agencies, and other relevant healthcare providers.
  • Provide timely documentation in the electronic medical record of all relevant data, including results of diagnostic tests, laboratory results, patients' condition and response to therapies/interventions, and communications with physician colleagues.
  • Respond to patient inquiries and concerns via telephone or EPIC MyChart messages and be accessible to consult with supervising physicians as needed.
  • Analyze clinical practice patterns to provide the best medical care and to increase effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Refer general orthopedic patients to other services as needed to meet the needs of our patients.

Requirements:

  • Nurse Practitioners: Completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, with a Master's degree in Nursing.
  • Physician Assistants: Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program, with a Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred.
  • Certification: BLS required.
  • License: Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina for Nurse Practitioners, and be licensed in the state of NC, and be certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
