Hours per Shift: 10-hour shifts
Position Overview:The Special Procedures Technologist works under the direction of the Chief Technologist and Vascular Institute Manager. This role is critical in providing safe, age-appropriate care by performing a variety of interventional and special procedures in areas such as interventional radiology (IR), vascular hybrid, and neuro-interventional settings.
Key Responsibilities:- Complete VI/IR competencies and apply critical thinking skills.
- Work collaboratively with radiologists, vascular surgeons, and cardiologists.
- Prepare patients for procedures and use sterile techniques.
- Set up equipment and prepare necessary supplies for each procedure.
- Independently perform procedures, ensuring quality imaging and patient care.
- Perform procedures across multiple settings, including IR, vascular hybrid, and neuro-interventional.
- Use two patient identifiers (e.g., armband, date of birth) to verify patient ID.
- Verify patient orders and consent forms before procedures.
- Follow pre-procedural verification and time-out protocols.
- Ensure compliance with site marking when necessary.
- Maintain patient privacy and comfort during procedures.
- Be flexible with work hours to meet department needs.
- Take on-call responsibilities as required, including weekend shifts.
- Maintain effective communication with patients, colleagues, and leadership.
- Assist in the maintenance of departmental records and compliance with regulations.
- Keep stock levels updated and ensure that necessary equipment is available.
- Maintain current certifications, including BLS and required ARRT certifications.
- Assist with in-service training and mentoring of other staff as appropriate.
- Provide patient and family education regarding procedures.
- Offer post-procedural home care instructions when necessary.
- Education:
- Graduate of an AMA-approved School of Radiology Technology.
- License/Certification:
- ARRT certification in Cardiovascular Interventional (CV), Radiography, or Vascular Intervention.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred.
- Experience:
- Minimum 3 years of experience in interventional special procedures in either IR, cardiac, or vascular hybrid settings.
- Skills:
- Ability to function independently during procedures after orientation and competency validation.
- Proficiency in all aspects of interventional/vascular procedures, patient positioning, radiation protection, and understanding of anatomy and pathology.
- Positive attitude, strong communication skills, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
