Position Summary
The Senior Center Operations Specialist collaborates closely with the Aging Well Coordinator to facilitate daily functions at the Senior Center. This role is instrumental in supporting initiatives related to long-term objectives and planning at the Senior Center, which operates under the Lake County Public Health Agency as part of the Lake County Government.

Key Responsibilities

  • Welcome seniors both in-person and via phone, providing information and referrals.
  • Operate county vehicles and senior vans for transportation to meals, medical appointments, shopping, and outings.
  • Assist seniors with boarding and alighting from vehicles.
  • Maintain cleanliness and documentation for vehicles.
  • Support the Aging Well Coordinator with the distribution of monthly food boxes.
  • Assist in managing the Durable Medical Equipment loan program.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of the Snow Removal Program.
  • Participate in staff meetings and contribute to discussions.
  • Create and disseminate monthly newsletters and communications.
  • Keep social media platforms updated and engaging.
  • Regularly update the Senior Center's webpage.
  • Assist in planning and organizing new activities and excursions for seniors.
  • Oversee private events during non-business hours at the Senior Center.
  • Support UAACOG programming through the Senior Center.
  • Provide assistance in kitchen operations as needed.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of Policies & Procedures.
  • Represent the Lake County Government and Senior Center professionally at all times.
  • Ensure a high standard of cleanliness within the Senior Center.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Aging Well Coordinator.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old with a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to pass a background check.
  • Capability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
  • Flexibility to work a varied schedule, including some weekends.
  • Clean driving record required.
  • Ability to follow both oral and written instructions.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships.
  • Commitment to serving the senior community of Lake County.
  • Willingness to learn and maintain a positive attitude.
  • Proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

  • Ability to engage in activities such as standing, walking, bending, reaching, and kneeling.
  • Ability to lift and carry items weighing 30-50 pounds.
  • Capability to operate a county vehicle.

Most duties are performed in a controlled indoor environment, with occasional exposure to noise and seasonal conditions. The role may require working evenings and weekends as necessary.
