About the Role

AECOM is seeking a highly skilled Electrical Engineer V to join our team in Roanoke, VA or Virginia Beach, VA. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing and coordinating electrical power systems for various projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and complete electrical power and lighting systems for projects of all sizes.
  • Coordinate design and schedule with other disciplines, including architectural, structural, mechanical, technology, clerical, and equipment suppliers.
  • Experience designing medium/low voltage power distribution, lighting, lightning protection, security, and other low voltage systems for DOD/Federal, Industrial, Commercial, Higher Education and High Rise, and Wastewater.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation and design data for permanent project files.
  • Attend project meetings and delegate activities as necessary.
  • Meet with clients and prepare technical presentations while maintaining good client relations.
  • Represent the organization and maintain liaison with individuals and related organizations.
  • Work with Project Engineer and Project Manager on developing design schedules and budgets for electrical engineering work activities.
  • Perform power system studies, including load flow, short circuit, protective coordination, and arc flash analysis.
  • Develop one-line and three-line diagrams, protective relay and metering one-line/three-line diagrams, switchgear/switchboard/panelboard layouts, equipment layouts, and sectional views.
  • Develop cable schedules and comply with hazardous area classification codes and standards.
  • Develop construction and equipment specifications and support projects during construction, start-up, and commissioning.
  • Perform grounding analysis and design and review engineering work performed by peers.
  • Provide specialized technical input to studies and design for staff's specific area of expertise.
  • Develop study and design procedures to facilitate high-quality, cost-effective work by others.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary review of project deliverables.
  • Develop construction cost estimates and estimates of technical efforts for projects.
  • Perform quality control review of design calculations or drawings.
  • Prepare technical specification sections.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Electrical Engineering from an accredited program and 8 years of design experience.
  • Experience with Revit and/or AutoCAD.
  • PE License.
  • Valid US Drivers License, and as a condition of employment, pass AECOM's motor vehicle records review.
  • Due to the nature of this work, US Citizenship is required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Electrical Power Calculation Software (SKM, ETAP, EasyPower).
  • Experience with application of National Electrical Code.
  • Experience with application of National Electrical Safety Code.
  • Working knowledge of NFPA and IEEE Regulatory Codes.
  • Skill in the use of Microsoft programs and BIM software.
  • Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups.
  • Ability to perform final quality control check in their area of expertise.
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of technical plans and drawings.
  • Ability to switch between working on multiple/different projects.
