The Nurse Manager plays a vital role in providing exceptional customer service and nursing care to Residents on the assigned unit and in the facility as a whole.

The Nurse Manager assists the Director of Nursing, Unit Managers, and/or the Assistant Director of Nursing in planning, development, and overall operation of the assigned unit, ensuring Residents receive quality care 24 hours a day.

  • Assess Residents' conditions to implement intervention and develop Care Plans.
  • Provide preventative, supportive, maintenance, and rehabilitative care directed to the physiologic and psychosocial needs and well-being of Residents.
  • Monitor and assist CNAs/STNAs with personal Residents care duties such as bathing, feeding, and assisting with ambulation.
  • Administer medications to Residents according to the Public Health Code, Nursing Department Policies, and standards and procedures.
  • Manage and document emergency care of Residents, coordinating communications to physicians, responsible persons, DON, and Administrator.

The Nurse Manager also:

  • Requests and assures supplies and medical equipment are available to perform care and treatments.
  • Schedule appointments, physicians, therapy, and consults.
  • Perform comprehensive and focused nursing assessments in conjunction with changes in condition and scheduled programs.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities as assigned by the Director of Nursing, Unit Manager, and/or ADON.
  • Report Residents and staff complaints and all unusual occurrences to the Director of Nursing or Administrator.

Requirements include a current state license as a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse, CPR certification, and one year of professional nursing experience in the long-term care setting, with knowledge of current federal and state laws and regulations that apply to the practice of nursing in a long-term care setting.
