Job Summary

This role involves performing mammographic procedures under the direct supervision of a radiologist. The successful candidate will operate mammographic equipment with proficiency, utilizing radiation safety practices and departmental protocols to produce high-quality examinations.

Essential Functions
  1. Verify patient ID armband and validate proof of identity.
  2. Review patient mammography medical history and correlate prior mammograms to ensure the correct examination is being performed.
  3. Perform digital imaging acquisition and recognize factors that affect image acquisition, display, archiving, and retrieval.
  4. Evaluate technical quality of images and consult with a radiologist if needed.
  5. Assist radiologist during invasive procedures and practice proper sterile technique in assembling necessary supplies.
  6. Report malfunctioning equipment to the department supervisor and perform troubleshooting and minor repair procedures under direction of clinical engineering.
  7. Maintain patient records, including completing orders correctly, charging exams and supplies, and verifying correct exam was sent to PACS.
Physical Requirements

This position requires moderate to heavy physical efforts in lifting and moving patients, equipment, and supplies. The incumbent must be able to push, pull, and lift weights of up to 600 pounds with assistance. Frequent standing, sitting, walking, bending, and lifting are required, as well as stretching, bending, twisting, squatting, and kneeling in the daily operation of the Mammography department.

Education, Experience, and Certifications

A graduate of an accredited two-year AMA and ARRT-approved program in Radiologic Technology is required. The R.T. must have met the federal mammography training requirements as specified in the Mammography Quality Standards Act of 1992 (MQSA). ARRT and advanced certification in Mammography are also required. BLS is required per policy guidelines.
