About Our Team

Southwest Research Institute's Solar System Science & Exploration Division is a leading research organization in Boulder, Colorado. Our team conducts cutting-edge research in solar system and astrophysical topics, including Solar Physics/Heliophysics, Planetary Science, Astrophysics, Origins Research, and Geophysics. We participate in and lead several NASA orbital and deep space missions, such as PUNCH (Sun), Solar Orbiter (Sun), Vigil (Sun), Mars Science Laboratory (Mars), New Horizons (Pluto), and Lucy (Jovian Trojans).

Research Objectives
  • Develop lunar data products to support scientific research.
  • Investigate the physics and morphology of secondary crater impacts through empirical research.
  • Examine the role of geology and geophysics in small-body impact crater populations, such as asteroids and Kuiper belt objects.
Daily and Monthly Responsibilities
  • Enhance data product codes by adding new functionality.
  • Conduct geologic mapping using ArcGIS and spacecraft images.
  • Analyze data from spacecraft images and geologic mapping to produce scientific results.
  • Model geologic processes to compare with spacecraft data.
  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in Planetary Science.
  • 1+ years of experience with Python programming.
  • Familiarity with Mathematica and ArcGIS.
  • USGS image processing software and small bodies mapping tool experience.
