Key Responsibilities:
This role encompasses a full-time (nine-month) tenure-track appointment within the Natural Resources and Society department, with a focus on:
- Teaching and guiding students in established courses related to place-based and land-based STEM education, along with field science instructional methodologies.
- Collaborating with faculty across various programs to design and implement graduate-level courses that enhance curriculum and instructional strategies.
- Establishing a funded research initiative centered on land education methodologies, STEM field education, environmental education, or similar areas.
- Providing mentorship and guidance to graduate students regarding their professional educational pathways.
- Assisting in the recruitment of graduate students.
- Partnering with communities and Tribal nations to ensure educational programs align with local priorities and needs.
- Conducting research on the effectiveness of educational approaches.
- Supporting the delivery of courses at the McCall Outdoor Science School.
Department Overview:
The University of Idaho McCall Field Campus, in conjunction with the College of Natural Resources, invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor specializing in Land-based and place-based STEM pedagogy. This position is situated at the University of Idaho McCall Field Campus.
The mission of the McCall Field Campus is to foster collaborative relationships between land, water, and communities through innovative research and transformative STEM educational experiences. The campus is home to the McCall Outdoor Science School, which engages numerous students annually in land-based educational activities.
Faculty and staff actively collaborate with educational institutions across the region to enhance STEM education opportunities and work alongside Tribal Nations and local communities to promote educational priorities.
Qualifications:
Minimum Education:
A PhD in education, Indigenous studies, environmental studies, natural resources, or related fields is required at the time of hire.
Required Qualifications:
Demonstrated experience in collaborative work with diverse teams across various disciplines and cultural contexts.
Proven track record in designing and executing scholarly research, including publications in peer-reviewed journals.
Experience in developing a recognized research program focused on land education pedagogy, STEM field education, or environmental education.
Teaching experience at the college or graduate level.
Preferred Qualifications:
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Experience working in partnership with Tribal communities through educational or research initiatives.
Background in Land-based and place-based education methodologies, culturally relevant curriculum design, and related fields.
Experience in community-based participatory projects and Indigenous pedagogies in professional settings.
