Position: Part-Time Registered Nurse specializing in Allergy Care

Hours: 20 hours/week

Are you prepared to redefine patient care in allergy and immunology?

The role of an Allergy Nurse involves providing specialized care to patients suffering from chronic allergic conditions, including asthma, allergic rhinitis, urticaria, and atopic dermatitis.

Key Responsibilities

Your Role in Patient Care

The Allergy Nurse will be responsible for:
  • Conducting patient assessments, including taking medical histories and vital signs.
  • Executing physician orders for specialized diagnostic tests such as:
    • Skin testing and intradermal testing
    • Skin patch testing
    • Pulmonary function assessments
    • Exercise treadmill evaluations
    • Administering food and drug challenges
    • Monitoring patients for procedural risks
    • Managing systemic reactions within the clinical setting
  • Administering immunotherapy and biologic treatments under physician supervision.
  • Handling administrative tasks, including responding to patient inquiries, managing medication orders, and coordinating preauthorizations for biologic therapies.

Qualifications

What You Bring to the Team
  • Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing; RN with ADN or BSN.
  • Preferred one year of nursing experience in either inpatient or outpatient settings.
  • Valid and unrestricted RN license in the state of Illinois.
  • BLS Certification is mandatory.
  • Certification in Asthma Education by the National Asthma Educator Certification Board is preferred.
  • Ability to perform skin testing, intradermal testing, and manage oral challenges.
  • Proficiency in administering various medication routes, including PO, IM, subcutaneous, and inhalant.
  • Capability to diagnose and treat anaphylaxis in an outpatient context, including vital assessment and coordination with emergency services.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Basic computer skills, with experience in EMR systems required; familiarity with Epic and Merge systems is a plus.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, ability to multitask, critical thinking, and effective communication with the healthcare team.
  • Compassionate approach to patient care, especially for those facing serious medical challenges.
