Compensation: $17.75 per hour

We offer a comprehensive CDL training program for candidates holding a CDL class A permit, CDL class A (with restrictions), or CDL class B.

Key Responsibilities
  • Complete a structured training program lasting between 5 to 10 weeks.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols while driving, delivering feed, and managing loading and unloading tasks, prioritizing animal welfare.
  • Follow all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
  • Promptly report any accidents to the appropriate authorities.
  • Abide by the guidelines established by the receiving agent.
These responsibilities outline the general nature of the work performed in this role and are not an exhaustive list of all duties and skills required. Additional tasks may be assigned as necessary.

Qualifications

To succeed in this position, candidates must meet the following requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED is preferred.
  • Possession of a current Class A CDL (with restrictions), Class B, or CDL permit.
  • Previous driving experience is advantageous.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Maintain an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to obtain a DOT medical card upon hire.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements

The work environment and physical demands associated with this position include:
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Capability to hook up trailers to tractors, which involves backing under the trailer, raising landing gear, and connecting airlines.
  • Roll up and down landing gear, requiring the use of both hands and upper body strength.
  • Operate a manual transmission vehicle.
  • During pre-trip inspections, climb into the engine area and perform tasks that may involve bending, stooping, and crawling.
  • Open and close trailer gates and doors for loading and unloading.
  • Navigate tight spaces, such as fuel islands, while entering and exiting the cab.
  • Adjust body position when backing up, which may require leaning out of the window to check blind spots.
  • Report any issues encountered on the farm or designated plant.
  • Understand and follow the emergency notification process at Smithfield.
