Description

This position involves performing a range of library-related tasks that necessitate an understanding of library operations and protocols. It is a paraprofessional role, functioning under the general oversight of a senior staff member or supervisor.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist patrons in accessing both digital and print resources.
  • Provide support for reference inquiries and help locate necessary information.
  • Guide patrons in utilizing computers and various library technologies.
  • Handle interlibrary loan requests efficiently.
  • Manage periodicals and ensure proper processing.
  • Engage in collection management initiatives under supervisory guidance.
  • Prepare and set up displays and exhibitions as needed.
  • Support other library functions as required.
Qualifications

Education and Experience:

A High School Diploma or GED, complemented by college coursework and/or relevant library experience totaling at least two years.

Skills and Knowledge:
  • Strong understanding of general clerical practices and library procedures.
  • Familiarity with library materials and resources.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and comfortable with Internet navigation.
  • Ability to operate computers and handheld devices effectively.
  • Capable of moving heavy carts of books and shelving materials, as well as performing physical tasks such as lifting, stooping, and reaching.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends as necessary.
  • Excellent communication skills, demonstrating tact and sound judgment.
  • Ability to enforce library policies and regulations.
  • Skilled in instructing others on library services and facilities.
  • Aptitude for learning library systems and practices, including classification systems and bibliographic data management.
  • Competent in assisting the public in finding materials of interest.
  • Ability to follow both written and verbal instructions accurately.
  • Experience in maintaining records and compiling routine statistical reports.
  • Capable of establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with colleagues.
