Job Description:

This is a safety-sensitive position that requires the ability to work independently and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the safe operation of vessels, performing maintenance and repair duties, and responding to emergency situations.

Responsibilities:

  • Safe operation of all engines, auxiliary machinery, and related systems and equipment
  • Maintenance and repair of vessels and related machinery under the direction of the Port Engineer's designee
  • Pumping sewage and taking on fresh water for vessel systems
  • Resetting electrical power as required and reporting any deficiencies immediately to supervisors
  • Checking all mooring lines and deck levels of vessels and reporting any discrepancies to supervisors
  • Maintaining contact with Authority police during the night watch
  • Responding decisively and effectively to emergency situations
  • Maintaining familiarity with vessel equipment operating characteristics
  • Assisting in the engine room during vessel operation as required
  • Observing and recording information in machinery logs and reporting completed work or needed repairs to the Chief Engineer
  • Cleanliness of vessel engine room and other machinery spaces

Requirements:

  • Able to read and understand Engine Room Standard Operating Procedures and DRBA Facilities Operations Manual and follow instructions
  • Ability to diagnose typical machinery malfunctions and recommend corrective action
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints and machinery system technical manuals
