The Recreation Therapist position at StateJobsNY is responsible for developing, planning, and managing recreational services for individuals with developmental disabilities. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in therapeutic recreation and experience in planning and administering programs for geriatric patients, individuals with developmental disabilities, and others.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement recreational programs for individuals with developmental disabilities
- Coordinate community inclusion activities and events
- Lead person-centered activities and groups
- Assist in completing activity packets and community event packets
- Participate in Special Olympics trainings, events, and tournaments
- Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation or a related field
- Experience in planning and administering therapeutic recreation programs
- Current credentials as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) or current licensure by NYS as a Creative Arts Therapist
- Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities
- Knowledge of community inclusion principles and practices
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
