Position Overview

The Clinical Nurse Supervisor provides essential clinical guidance and compassionate, family-oriented care for patients facing urgent and emergent health issues. The supervisor is responsible for swift assessments, treatment plans, patient and family education, and ensuring a seamless transition through the discharge process.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversees and optimizes patient flow, ensuring efficient throughput by utilizing appropriate resources during admission, transfer, or discharge processes.
  • Evaluates clinical competencies, reallocates patient assignments to enhance performance, and mentors staff to improve clinical outcomes.
  • Adjusts staffing levels in response to patient census fluctuations and collaborates with nursing leadership to fulfill staffing requirements.
  • Promotes cost efficiency and maintains fiscal responsibility by ensuring adequate supply levels are sustained.
  • Aligns departmental objectives with the strategic goals of the Health System, actively participating in nursing governance and unit committees.
  • Facilitates departmental meetings, disseminates updates from the Health System, and reviews patient perception survey data.
  • Encourages staff empowerment and fosters open communication, guiding the team towards high performance and engagement.

Daily Interactions
  • Collaborates with all levels of the urgent care interdisciplinary team, promoting teamwork within the department and across the Health System.

Patient Engagement
  • Engages with patients and families to discuss the physician's care plan, gathering input and addressing any concerns.
  • Provides education on disease processes and treatment options, documenting patient and family teaching in the electronic health record.
  • Administers direct patient care and takes on assignments during clinical hours.
  • Supervises and assists staff in delivering patient care through assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation.
  • Ensures accountability for patient throughput and outcomes through effective care coordination.
  • Identifies process improvement opportunities and participates in projects aimed at enhancing workflow using Lean methodologies.
  • Supports the nursing team during emergency response efforts.
  • Communicates critical patient progress and changes in condition to the healthcare team.
  • Participates in performance evaluations through chart reviews, ensuring compliance with documentation standards.
  • Ensures adherence to regulatory requirements and departmental policies by all staff on the assigned shift.
  • Strives for an error-free environment by delivering high-quality, safe care in accordance with established policies.
  • Conducts audits to ensure accurate charge capture within the department.
  • Provides ongoing training to nursing staff to minimize billing errors.
  • Enforces the use of standard operating procedures to enhance safety and quality.
  • Maintains continuous supervision of behavioral health patients, applying non-violent crisis intervention strategies.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Active RN Licensure in the State of Florida or Multi-State Enhanced Nursing License Compact (eNLC).
  • Current American Heart Association BLS certification.
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification required within 180 days of hire.
  • American Heart Association PALS certification required within one year of hire.
  • American Heart Association ACLS certification required within one year of hire.
  • 1-3 years of experience as a Registered Nurse.
  • Prior experience as a Charge Nurse is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree or enrollment in a BSN program.
  • National certification within five years of hire is preferred.
  • Experience in pediatric nursing within an acute care setting is preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Word.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to positively influence and hold self and others accountable.
  • Capability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Able to lead a team to achieve organizational objectives.
