Job Summary

Key Responsibilities
  • Student Education Plans: Collaborate with parents and department team members to prepare student education plans, ensuring a tailored approach to meet individual needs.
  • Learning Support: Provide support to students with a wide range of learning, mental, emotional, and physical disabilities, promoting their educational, physical, and social development.
  • Instructional Design: Design instruction, both individual and small group, which parallels the general education curriculum, ensuring students receive a comprehensive education.
  • IEP Implementation: Serve as the coordinator of individualized education program (IEP) implementation with general education staff, ensuring seamless collaboration and student success.
  • Progress Monitoring: Monitor student progress, participate in review and revision of student's IEP, as appropriate, and maintain accurate student records.
  • Mentorship: Mentor and support teaching assistants who provide support to students with disabilities, promoting a collaborative and inclusive learning environment.
  • Transition Support: Support students in preparation for grade transitions and preparing for life skills, ensuring a smooth transition to the next stage of their educational journey.
  • Assessment and Tracking: Assess students' skills and educational needs, track student's performance, and discuss students' progress with their other teachers.
  • Communication: Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues to maintain positive relationships and ensure a supportive learning environment.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university preferred.
  • Certification: Valid state teaching certificate as required by state, contract/district regulations.
  • Experience: Minimum of one year experience in teaching environment preferred.
  • Certifications: State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Elementary Teaching preferred, State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Secondary Teaching preferred, State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Special Teaching preferred, Endorsement: Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS1) preferred.
  • Professional Standards: Comply with all relevant professional standards of practice.
  • Training and Development: Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicable.
  • Health and Safety: Current CPR if applicable, TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable, Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation).
  • Confidentiality: Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language required.
  • Computer Proficiency: Computer proficiency required.
  • Age Requirement: Must be at least 18 years of age.
