Position Overview:

Under the guidance of the Chief Radiation Therapist, the Radiation Therapist 1 is responsible for executing high-quality and technical duties related to Radiation Therapy, ensuring comprehensive patient care. This role encompasses both direct and indirect patient interactions, support during specialized procedures, and participation in the clinical education of Radiation Therapy students. Exceptional customer service and adherence to the Standards of Professional Behavior are essential in all interactions. Responsibilities are carried out in accordance with departmental and organizational policies. Staff may be assigned to various Radiation Oncology locations as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Clinical Process: The Radiation Therapist engages in assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation while ensuring patient confidentiality and dignity. Provides safe, effective, and evidence-based care tailored to individual patient needs. Collaborates with Radiation Oncologists to communicate treatment advice and care to patients. Adheres to radiation safety protocols and performs Time Outs during treatment procedures to confirm correct site and patient treatment.
  • Technical Duties: Operates therapeutic equipment following manufacturer standards and departmental policies. Maintains a clean and organized work environment. Identifies and reports equipment malfunctions promptly. Involves patients and their families in care decisions and explains treatment procedures clearly.
  • Clinical Expertise: Demonstrates flexibility in managing diverse clinical situations and maintains continuing education requirements. Responsible for troubleshooting routine issues during treatment and optimizing the treatment schedule.
  • Clinical Instruction: Actively participates in the training of Radiation Therapy students, ensuring a respectful and professional learning environment. Conducts evaluations of student clinical rotations.

Qualifications:
Education: Graduation from an accredited Radiation Therapy Technology program; A.R.R.T. registration and CT Licensure are required. BLS Certification is mandatory.
Experience: New graduates in radiation therapy or those with 1-5 years of clinical experience are encouraged to apply.
Licensure: ARRT Certification, CT State License, BLS Certification.
Special Skills: Requires effective communication and active listening skills, along with problem-solving abilities. Must be attentive to safety procedures and capable of relating to patients under stress.

Physical Demands: The role requires intense concentration and attention to detail, including the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Continuous standing and walking are necessary, along with assisting patients with mobility. Exposure to various patient conditions is expected.

Additional Information:
This is a per diem position.
