Job Summary

Children's Healthcare of Atlanta is seeking a skilled Pharmacy Technician 2 to join our team. As a Pharmacy Technician 2, you will play a vital role in assisting pharmacists and preparing medications for dispensing under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist.

Responsibilities
  • Assist pharmacists in processing medication orders and dispensing medications to ensure safe and appropriate provision of medications to patients.
  • Fills all physician orders accurately and efficiently, obtaining a pharmacist check prior to all dispensing.
  • Consistently fills all medication stock orders completely and accurately, obtaining a pharmacist check prior to dispensing.
  • Assists pharmacists by anticipating and prioritizing the workload accurately and efficiently.
  • Distributes medications in a timely manner, prioritizing orders such as Now/Stat, ASAP, and routine to assure appropriate turnaround time.
  • Prepares and compounds all medications using proper techniques, accurately preparing and compounding medications, including IV fluids, parenteral nutrition, chemotherapy solutions, and drips.
  • Maintains adequate supplies of all stock items in a clean and organized environment, checking assigned stock sections of the pharmacy monthly for expired medications, pulling expired medications, and flagging medications that will expire within the next 3 months.
  • Completes and maintains pharmacy records, documenting all assigned QA responsibilities, such as hood cleaning, refrigerator temp, and area of inspection.
  • Participates in required departmental training, education, and certification, completing all required orientation/training checklist(s) and modules.
  • Precepts new and existing staff members, participating in orientation and training of new and existing employees, using effective educational techniques in all training and educational activities.
Requirements
  • 1 year of experience as a pharmacy technician in a pediatric hospital pharmacy environment with focused IV Admixture assignments, or successful completion of the CHOA IV Admixture certification training program, with > 9 months documented proficiency.
  • National certification as a pharmacy technician or a 2-year college degree is preferred.
  • Active registration with the State of Georgia as a Pharmacy Technician.
