Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated individual to join our team as a Child Nutrition Program Worker. This role is responsible for preparing and serving quality food to meet menu requirements, while maintaining a clean and organized kitchen environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and serve food according to a planned menu of tested, uniform recipes.
  • Serve food according to meal schedules, departmental policies, and procedures.
  • Practice and promote portion control and proper use of leftovers.
  • Supervise storage and handling of food items and supplies, maintaining a clean and organized storage area.
  • Remove used dishes and assist in the cleaning of steam tables, other tables, and furnishings in the dining area.
  • Operate tools and equipment according to prescribed safety standards.
  • Follow established procedures to meet high standards of cleanliness, health, and safety.
  • Keep garbage collection containers and areas neat and sanitary.
  • Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.
  • Maintain personal appearance and hygiene.
  • Handle and record cashier functions accurately.
  • Help record food requisitions and orders necessary supplies.
  • Maintain daily food preparation records.
  • Promote teamwork and interaction with fellow staff members.
  • Engage in professional growth, ongoing training, and demonstrate professional ethics.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters in accordance with state and federal law.
  • Demonstrate initiative in identifying opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility.
  • Respond to inquiries and requests in a timely and positive manner.
  • Properly care for equipment and material resources of the school system.
  • Use collaboration skills to work as an effective team member.
  • Adhere to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal and local laws.
  • Report absences and take leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures.
  • Perform any other job-related duties as assigned by the Director of Child Nutrition.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Must meet background clearance requirements as specified by Alabama statutes and State Board of Education requirements.
  • Working knowledge of kitchen equipment and food production procedures.
  • Ability to understand food preparation and safety instructions.
  • Ability to operate large and small kitchen equipment and tools.
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations.
  • Possess and maintain required health certifications.
  • Physical strength, mobility, dexterity, stamina, and acuity to perform job responsibilities and essential functions.
  • Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance.
