Job Title: Facilities Technician

We are seeking an experienced Facilities Technician to join our team at Coherent Corp. in Philadelphia, PA. This role will oversee the proper operation of our HVAC, water plant, electrical, and other utility systems, including hands-on set-up, repair, and maintenance. Additionally, this role will administer and facilitate Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) programs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist and/or troubleshoot problems related to malfunctioning production machines or physical plant equipment
  • Act as a technical repair and maintenance specialist for the facility, both in a hands-on and advisory capacity
  • Assure proper operation of company's HVAC, water plant, sprinkler, electrical, and other utility systems
  • Work with leadership to create and complete TPM tasks through all departments
  • Work with all departments as a liaison to facilitate and associated proper maintenance of the facility. Assist in the research and preparation of cost, schedule, and technical reports related to proposed facility modifications. Provide input and assist in coordinating facility modification projects
  • Work with outside vendors as the Facility Site Contractor Representative. Make sure vendors are compliant with all safety procedures
  • Monitor and report on code compliance of all company facilities and associated land. Obtain permits as required for continued operations and facility modifications
  • Represent physical plant on the EHS committee. Cost-effective solutions to EHS concerns are identified and implemented in a timely fashion
  • Strictly enforce safety procedures in at facility and report any observed safety violations in any department
  • Hazard Recognition and Control: identify and work to control conditions or actions that may cause injury, illness, or property damage through inspections/audits, assess environmental, safety, and health risks associated with equipment, materials, processes, facilities, or abilities
  • Hazardous Materials Management and Environmental Protection: ensure that chemicals, solvents, and other products are stored, used, and disposed in ways that prevent fires, unnecessary exposure, or harm to employees and the environment from these substances
  • Work with management to identify, analyze, address, and correct hazards throughout the facility
  • Prepare and submit applicable environmental reports as required
  • Work with local environmental regulatory agencies to monitor and ensure compliance and prepare for regulatory audits
  • Regularly perform rounds, and inspect buildings, grounds, and equipment for unsafe conditions, proper functionality, etc
Requirements:
  • Vocational or Technical education preferred
  • Minimum 6+ years of experience with knowledge of operational procedures and tools with emphasis on facilities and equipment maintenance
  • Previous experience with Environmental Health and Safety regulations desired
Skills:
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and HVAC equipment problems
  • Ability to work effectively with local, state, and national regulatory agencies such as DEP, EPA, OSHA, etc
  • Knowledge of engineering and design disciplines related to construction, maintenance, and troubleshooting of production machinery and facilities used in the manufacture and coating of optical elements
  • Project management skills with the ability to coordinate internal and external resources
  • Good interpersonal skills, both written and oral
  • Ability to understand general principles and key liabilities associated with OSHA, EPA, and other applicable government regulations associated with EHS
  • Ability to research and report on key questions related to these EHS regulations
  • Ability to work independently and in a team scenario

Physical Requirements:
  • Standing. Particularly for sustained periods of time. 50 - 75% of the time
  • Walking. Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another
  • Kneeling. Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees
  • Stooping. Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires full motion of the lower extremities and back muscles
  • Grasping. Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm
  • Lifting. Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires substantial use of upper extremities and back muscles
