QualificationsApplicants should possess a high school diploma or a general education degree (GED) and have a minimum of two (2) years of experience as a nurse's aide in a hospital, skilled nursing facility, home health agency, or as an independent provider in a person's home.
Certification as a Nurse's Aide is required, which includes completion of a curriculum of at least 75 hours with no less than 16 hours of practical experience, meeting the standards set forth in Federal Register Section 484.36A, or current registration as a Nurse's Aide by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Experience as a Nurse's Aide in a hospital, skilled nursing facility, personal care residence, home health agency, or as an independent provider in a person's home is also acceptable.
Independently visiting patients/clients in their homes is essential; therefore, reliable transportation and a valid driver's license are necessary. CPR certification is required, along with a working knowledge of computers, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
Successful completion of the Home Health Aide/Personal Attendant competency evaluation is mandatory, achieving satisfactory ratings in all skill areas and a score of 85% or higher on the written examination.
