Job Summary:

The Chief Physician and Surgeon, Correctional Facility, is a critical leadership position responsible for overseeing the medical services provided to inmates within a correctional facility. This role requires a strong clinical background, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Directly supervise civil service and contract medical physicians and mid-level providers assigned to the institution.
  • Work collaboratively with clinical and custody supervisors and managers to ensure medical services are provided safely, timely, effectively, and efficiently.
  • Ensure compliance with medical board regulations and California state laws.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to improve healthcare services.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless delivery of medical services.
Requirements:
  • Possession of a valid medical license in California.
  • Possession of a valid certificate issued by an American Medical Specialty Board or an American Osteopathic Board as a specialist in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a correctional healthcare setting.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and make sound decisions under pressure.
