Job Title: Packaging Engineer

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Packaging Engineer to join our team at Dennis Group for New Grads, Co-Ops & Internships. As a Packaging Engineer, you will play a critical role in designing and implementing packaging solutions for our food and beverage industry clients.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop design concepts, estimates, and functional specifications for packaging lines
  • Interpret mechanical design requirements and customer specifications to ensure that all requirements are realized in the design of the packaging system
  • Specify, purchase, install, and commission packaging equipment
  • Coordinate and manage on-site construction projects
  • Design and develop machine and process designs
  • Prepare machine testing requirements and procedures
  • Prepare equipment specifications, purchase documentation, and equipment/facility layout
  • Survey existing conditions
  • Create packaging flow diagrams
  • Create material balance
  • Create packaging matrix
  • Create equipment list
  • Assist with equipment bid package
  • Understand size and placement of control/electrical panels
  • Create design basis document and scope of work
  • Produce basis of design documentation
  • Advise on manufacturing and packaging design principles, including conveyance, wrapping, bagging, cartoning, filling, bottling, case packing, and palletizing
  • Assist in process simulation
  • Provide construction site support
  • Observe rough-in construction compliance and plans, specs, and details
  • Assist in sanitary design and warehouse design and layout
  • Develop AutoCAD equipment layouts
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, packaging, industrial, or manufacturing engineering
  • 0-3 years of work experience or schooling in scope, layout, install, and commission packaging equipment lines
  • Experience working for professional services, packaging, and food and beverage firms is a plus
  • Proficiency with MS Office, MS Project, and familiarity with AutoCAD
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Intellectual curiosity and a positive, can-do, team-oriented attitude
  • Strong problem-solving, organizing, and time management skills
  • Ability to meet travel requirements, up to 50% to 75% of the year
Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds at times
