Position Summary

The Cost Estimator plays a crucial role in the design and specification of Voice Data Systems. This position is tasked with compiling detailed material and labor estimates for project proposals and bids, ensuring that all installations meet client expectations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support business operations in the local area by providing services such as design, engineering, and installation of Building Automated Systems.
  • Contribute to the development of a managed service department and extended warranty offerings, presenting designs to clients.
  • Collaborate with the sales team during client meetings and presentations.
  • Conduct thorough voice and data bids for clients, covering low voltage wiring, equipment setup, and system processing.
  • Participate in necessary meetings to ensure project alignment.
  • Work closely with Sales, Project Management, Purchasing, Service, and Fabrication teams to interpret project specifications, determine system layouts, and develop comprehensive material lists and labor estimates.
  • Create building layouts, floor plans, and rack elevations using various design formats.
  • Prepare job packets that include material lists, equipment order sheets, scopes of work, project information sheets, safety requirements, and one-line drawings.
  • Oversee and document the final drawing review process.
  • Provide ongoing support and service to clients post-installation.
  • Maintain clear communication with Project Managers and Executives regarding project statuses and task lists.
  • Ensure daily updates on project progress with all departments involved.
  • Uphold a professional appearance and foster positive customer interactions.
  • Adhere to health and safety regulations as mandated by clients.
  • Facilitate and support necessary changes to promote a positive work environment and assist in maintaining a profitable business.
  • Keep all bids updated in the Sales Now system to ensure accuracy.
  • Attend project kickoff meetings to ensure the operations team comprehends project requirements.
  • Engage with manufacturers and distributors to secure optimal pricing and project protection.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Local residency in the Austin area is preferred.

Education and Experience:

  • A minimum of one year of experience in estimation is required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods while working on a computer.
