GENERAL SUMMARY:


Under general supervision and in accordance with established protocols, conducts diagnostic MRI examinations utilizing the appropriate imaging apparatus and methodologies.

Adheres to Corewell Health's philosophy of Patient and Family Centered Care consistently.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Confirms patient identity and physician orders.
  • Provides detailed procedural information and education to patients and their families prior to each examination.
  • Collects a comprehensive patient history and documents it in the medical record.
  • Ensures the MRI safety form is completed by the patient or their designee and reviews the information with them just before entering the MRI scanning area.
  • Safely and competently operates MRI imaging equipment.
  • Administers IVs as necessary for the injection of contrast media.
  • Conducts procedures in accordance with MRI protocols.
  • Performs MRI and related patient care tasks using age-appropriate techniques considering the patient's physical capabilities and limitations.
  • Monitors patients throughout the examination to ensure their safety within the MRI Suite.
  • Ensures that urgent requests are communicated to the radiologist promptly.
  • Maintains cleanliness and proper stocking of the exam room and sanitizes equipment between patients.
  • Utilizes effective communication and collaboration with medical staff, management, technical, and support personnel.
  • Accurately and efficiently navigates hospital computer systems for order verification, schedule viewing, and information transmission to PACS.
  • Conducts quality MRI scans after confirming patient identity and physician orders.

STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS

To successfully perform this role, an individual must be capable of executing each essential duty satisfactorily. Education / Training:

  • Graduate of a Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) accredited Radiography program.
Work Experience:

  • 1-3 years of clinical experience beyond the staff radiographer level is preferred.
Certification, Licensure, Registration:

  • ARRT Registered (MR) and/or completion of an accredited Radiology program - must be registry eligible to take the ARRT(MR) certification required within one year of hire.
  • ARRT Registered and/or Graduate of an Approved MRI Technologist Program from the American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist (ARMRIT).
  • Must maintain good standing with the ARRT and/or ARMRIT. Technologists working in the MRI modality before 2008 are exempt from additional MRI certification.
Other Qualifications:

  • Basic Life Support Certification for Healthcare Providers at hire through the American Heart Association and American Red Cross.
