We are seeking a highly skilled Reading Specialist to join our team at The Lourie Center School. As a Reading Specialist, you will play a critical role in supporting the academic success of our students by developing and implementing effective reading programs.
Key Responsibilities- Identify strengths and needs in the schoolwide reading program
- Collaborate with content area teachers to develop, maintain, and evaluate ongoing reading programs for each student
- Assist school leadership in grouping and scheduling students based on reading skills
- Recommend, select, and order reading materials for the school
- Provide guidance to school leadership on reading program matters
- Develop and implement ongoing assessment measures to evaluate student progress
- Inform faculty of new reading materials and trends
- Serve as a resource to content area teachers in identifying reading needs and selecting appropriate materials
- Consult with parents and teachers regarding student progress in reading
- Master's degree in Special Education or a related field
- Minimum 5 years of teaching and reading intervention experience
- Eligibility for certification in Maryland as a Reading Specialist
- Preferred qualifications include certification in Orton Gillingham, Linda Mood-Bell, and Wilson reading interventions
- Experience with conducting and interpreting reading assessments
- Experience with developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
Monday to Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm
