POSITION OVERVIEW
Provide essential support to nurse aides in delivering resident care, focusing on areas such as nutrition, hydration, and personal grooming. Follow directives regarding the specific care needs of assigned residents, ensuring their comfort and well-being. Participate in resident activities and assist with transportation as required.
REQUIREMENTS
- Enrollment in a state-recognized CNA training program is necessary within 45 days of employment.
- Completion of the CNA Competency Examination and registration on the Healthcare Worker Registry is required within 120 days of employment.
- Applicants must be at least 16 years old, exhibiting good character, reliability, and trustworthiness.
- A high school diploma or G.E.D. is mandatory.
- Current CPR certification is required or must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
- Demonstrated interest in caring for the elderly, disabled, and ill individuals is essential. Ability to interact tactfully with residents, families, and staff is necessary.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English is required.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with team members is crucial.
- Must possess a friendly demeanor and a positive attitude.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Ability to move throughout the facility during the workday is essential.
- Must manage the mental and emotional demands of the role.
- Vision and hearing capabilities are necessary, or the use of appropriate prosthetics is required.
- Must work independently, demonstrate flexibility, and maintain personal integrity while interacting with residents and staff.
- Good overall health and emotional stability are required.
- Ability to engage with individuals who may be ill, young, or emotionally distressed is necessary.
- Physical ability to lift, push, pull, and move items exceeding fifty (50) pounds may be required.
- Exposure to infectious materials and health risks is part of the role.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in delivering care and services related to daily living activities as directed by nursing staff.
- Contribute to the development of personalized care plans for residents.
- Participate in care plan meetings and resident councils when invited.
- Report any concerns or complaints from residents or their families to management.
- Conduct rounds to ensure resident safety and comfort.
- Foster a warm and inviting atmosphere while maintaining a calm environment.
- Engage in ongoing education and training programs.
- Support the orientation of new staff members to the facility and its policies.
- Advise nursing leadership on equipment and supply needs.
- Manage and organize residents' personal belongings as needed.
- Assist residents during transitions between rooms or upon discharge.
- Participate in nursing report sessions at the beginning of shifts.
- Maintain accurate records of residents' intake and output as instructed.
- Perform housekeeping tasks such as making beds and maintaining cleanliness in resident areas.
- Respond promptly to calls for assistance and manage communication as needed.
- Measure and record vital signs as required.
- Monitor and report any changes in residents' conditions to nursing staff.
- Provide personal assistance to residents as time permits.
- Encourage residents to participate in their own care and rehabilitation.
- Support end-of-life care for residents as necessary.
- Document residents' food and fluid intake accurately.
- Ensure residents have access to fresh water and snacks as appropriate.
- Utilize safety equipment, such as transfer belts, when assisting residents.
- Maintain accessibility of call systems for residents.
- Report any hazardous conditions or equipment to nursing staff immediately.
- Contribute to the facility's quality assurance initiatives for the nursing department.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
