Position Overview:

The City of Euclid is seeking a dedicated full-time Automotive Mechanic for its Fleet Maintenance Division. This role offers a comprehensive benefits package, including retirement plans, vacation, sick leave, and paid holidays.

Work Schedule:
Monday to Friday: 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Compensation:
Hourly Rate: $30.03
Union Position

Key Responsibilities:
The Automotive Mechanic will be tasked with the inspection, testing, repair, and maintenance of all gas and diesel engines utilized in the City of Euclid's vehicle fleet and off-road machinery. The Mechanic will operate under the direct supervision of the Superintendent of Fleet Maintenance.

  • Assess vehicles to identify the nature and extent of damage or malfunction.
  • Disassemble and inspect components such as engines, transmissions, and differentials for wear and damage.
  • Repair or replace essential parts, including pistons, rods, gears, and bearings.
  • Reconstruct components like crankshafts and cylinder blocks.
  • Rewire ignition systems, realign brakes, and adjust front-end alignments.
  • Repair damaged bodywork and fenders, including filling dents and welding broken parts.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Superintendent or, in their absence, the General Foreman.
  • Undertake other related tasks as necessary.

Qualifications:
High school diploma required.
Certification in gasoline/diesel engines and a minimum of three years of relevant experience.

Skills Required:
Ability to communicate ideas and instructions clearly and effectively.

Work Environment:
This position involves heavy physical labor, requiring the ability to exert up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally. The work environment includes both indoor and outdoor settings.

Hazards:
Exposure to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, fumes, odors, dust, gases, chemicals, oils, and noise.

Physical Demands:
Activities include climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, and repetitive motions of the wrists, hands, and fingers.
