Position Overview:

The Patient Registration Specialist plays a crucial role in the healthcare process by efficiently admitting patients. This includes conducting interviews, preparing necessary admission documents, and assigning appropriate accommodations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the registration initiation process, ensuring all consents are signed, dated, and witnessed as required. Facilitate patient transfers to various departments and maintain an accurate admitting sign-in log. Assist with pre-registration when feasible and distribute essential information forms to patients upon admission. Verify patient identity by collecting social security numbers, insurance details, and identification. Ensure all patient and guarantor information is accurate and complete, including financial and demographic data.
  • Receive and review all faxed documentation, ensuring compliance with hospital policies and insurance guidelines regarding Medical Necessity. Accurately attach all received documents to the corresponding patient accounts.
  • Adhere to departmental budget and staffing requirements while providing insights for process enhancements and operational improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital, departmental, and billing policies, including Medicare medical necessity standards. Offer recommendations for departmental enhancements and follow established workflows.
  • Monitor financial data and documentation to achieve a 98% accuracy rate. Develop strategies to minimize insurance denials related to pre-certification and verification processes. Regular audits will be conducted to assess quality goals and compliance with accreditation standards.
  • Meet accounts receivable objectives, aiming to increase front-end collections and reduce bad debt while eliminating denials.
  • Recognize the significance of customer service, including patients, visitors, and staff, and strive to enhance patient satisfaction and community engagement.

Qualifications:

Education: High School diploma or equivalent preferred.

Experience: Prior on-the-job training or equivalent experience in patient admission procedures.

Skills and Abilities: Completion of hospital and departmental orientation is required. Proficiency in using personal computers is essential. Ability to thrive in a dynamic and sometimes stressful environment, with a willingness to work flexible hours as needed.
