Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Cardiothoracic Surgery Nurse to join our team at Emory Healthcare. As a Cardiothoracic Surgery Nurse, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care to adults with cardiovascular illness, including coronary bypass grafts, aortic, mitral, and pulmonic or tricuspid valve repair or replacement, heart transplantation, thoracic aneurysm repair, congenital heart defect repair, and ventricular assist devices.

Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive health care to patients with cardiovascular illness, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized care plans.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians.
  • Monitor patients' vital signs and report any changes or concerns to the physician.
  • Perform various medical procedures, such as inserting IVs, administering medications, and performing ECGs.
  • Provide education to patients and families on disease management, medication, and self-care.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and outcomes.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • 12 months of recent nursing experience within the past five years or recent completion of a re-entry nursing program.
  • Valid, active unencumbered Nursing license or temporary permit approved by the Georgia Licensing Board.
  • BLS certification required and ACLS may be required in designated departments.
Work Environment

The Cardiothoracic Surgery Nurse will work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with a team of experienced healthcare professionals. The nurse will be responsible for providing care to patients in a variety of settings, including the Cardiovascular Surgical Intermediate Care Unit and other areas of the hospital as needed.

Physical and Environmental Demands

The Cardiothoracic Surgery Nurse will be required to stand for long periods, lift patients and equipment, and work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions. The nurse will also be exposed to bio-hazardous waste, chemicals, and other environmental hazards.
