Crown Cork & Seal USA, Inc., a leading global packaging solutions provider, is seeking a skilled Tool & Die Maker to join our team in Sugar Land, Texas. As a key member of our manufacturing team, you will play a critical role in the operation and maintenance of high-speed manufacturing equipment, ensuring the production of high-quality aluminum cans.
Job SummaryThe Tool & Die Maker will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks, including repairing and altering end and tongue dies, managing tooling inventories, and setting up and operating machine tools. You will work closely with the operations team to plan, troubleshoot, and analyze production and equipment issues, and develop solutions to improve efficiency and quality.
Responsibilities- Repair and alter end and tongue dies, including the manufacture of replacement parts as needed
- Manage tooling inventories, set up tool packs, and measure precision tolerances
- Set up and operate machine tools, such as lathes and milling machines, to machine parts
- Interact closely with the operations team to plan, troubleshoot, and analyze production and equipment issues
- Run quality checks on product to ensure customer requirements are met
- 5-10 years of experience in a manufacturing environment
- Thorough knowledge of working with ferrous, non-ferrous, and non-metallic materials, cutting oils, and grinding compounds
- Proven competency in the use of micrometers, calipers, and related equipment
- Ability to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and overtime
- High School Education/GED or equivalent
- Associate degree or vocational or technical certification
- High-speed packaging industry experience
- Knowledge of Six Sigma, SPC, and Lean Manufacturing
- Strong problem-solving skills through individual and/or collaborative approach
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical blueprints, electrical schematics, and parts specifications
- High competency in the use of micrometers, calipers, and related equipment
- Proven experience with running precision equipment and equipment re-build knowledge
The majority of work will be in a plant environment, with occasional movement to different parts of the manufacturing floor. The associate will be exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicular traffic in the plant, as well as a wide range of temperatures.
