Hydroelectric Plant Electrician

Under the direction of the Hydroelectric Plant Electrical Supervisor and the guidance of Hydroelectric Plant Electrician II, safely performs electrical installations, maintenance, repair, modifications, and reconditioning of all electrical equipment and apparatus of a large hydroelectric installation in hydroelectric generating and/or pumping plants, aqueduct facilities, and other related project facilities.

Special RequirementsStamina to climb stairs, ladders, scaffolding, and 50-foot towers. Strength to pull cables and move gas cylinders, tools, equipment, or heavy parts up to 50 pounds. Able to identify color-coded wires, indicating lights, piping systems, and hazard warning signs. Manual dexterity needed to use hand tools, solder, and terminate electrical connections. Ability to stoop, bend, kneel, and work in confined spaces. Must be available for off-peak operations, maintenance, or emergency repairs.
Required to attend the Division's OP-2 class and be certified as a worker and/or switch person, in compliance with State Water Project regulations.
This is a sensitive position and is subject to substance abuse testing set forth in California Department of Human Resources (Cal-HR) Regulations 599.960-599.966.
Must possess a valid California Driver's License to travel from plant to plant and within the State Water Project, including driving a vehicle on public roadways.
Employee is required to successfully complete all safety training related to the functions of the job.
