About the Role:

This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and growing healthcare organization. As a Clinical Coordinator, you will be responsible for coordinating the pre-operative and post-operative care of patients, working closely with the nursing team, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals. You will have the opportunity to develop your leadership skills and contribute to quality improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the pre-operative and post-operative care of patients, ensuring that all necessary information is collected and documented accurately.
  • Verify the procedure to be performed and confirm the site of surgery with the patient.
  • Explain the pre-operative process to patients and provide physical, emotional, and educational support.
  • Provide attire necessary for procedures, including a name bracelet with explanations, red socks, a red bracelet, a cap, and surgical gowns.
  • Initiate IV access in preparation for the surgical procedure and discontinues it prior to discharge.
  • Check the chart for medical record completeness, including the H&P and consent.
  • Communicate with staff regarding the patient's history and surgical preparation.
  • Administer medication, treatments, and procedures in a competent and timely manner.
  • Recognize actual or potential problems and communicate them appropriately.
  • Admit patients from the operating room and receive the anesthesiologist's report.
  • Assess patients for vital signs, level of consciousness, breath sounds, drainage, and extremity color, temperature, and pulses as needed.
  • Maintain responsibility for altering care based on assessment.
  • Reinforce post-op teaching and instructions.
  • Document vital signs according to policy or as needed until the patient meets discharge criteria.
  • Making post-operative telephone calls as required.
  • Utilize equipment safely and appropriately.
  • Maintain patient safety and comfort.
  • Assist in procedure rooms and the post-operative area as required.
  • Maintain case preference cards with necessary documentation.
  • Exercise the ability to perform CLIA waived testing.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
  • Participate in educational, quality improvement, and staff meetings.
  • Participate in the economical use of supplies.

Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you must have a current NYS Nursing license, certification in BLS, ACLS, and PALS (for RNs), and one year of medical, surgical, or ICU experience. You must also be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
