Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Orthopedic Technician and Medical Assistant role encompasses a diverse range of patient care responsibilities and supportive services aimed at enhancing the experience for both patients and healthcare professionals.

ORTHOPEDIC TECHNICIAN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Educate patients and address inquiries as needed.
  • Apply splints, casts, and durable medical equipment (DME) in accordance with physician directives.
  • Manage sharps and perform suture/staple removals.
  • Respond to patient calls regarding casts, splints, and DME concerns.
  • Order DME and complete necessary billing documentation.
  • Maintain clinical supplies in examination and casting rooms.
  • Adhere to OSHA and HIPAA regulations and guidelines.
  • Provide support to Medical Assistants as required.
  • Perform general office and clinical tasks as needed.

MEDICAL ASSISTANT RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare patients for examinations and procedures.
  • Ensure all relevant documentation, including lab slips and reports, is available to the physician prior to patient consultations.
  • Gather and record patient history and vital signs to facilitate office visits.
  • Assist in preparing medication prescriptions and other orders as directed by the physician.
  • Provide patient education regarding office policies, medications, and treatment plans using appropriate medical terminology.
  • Ensure all consent forms are completed and properly filed.
  • Handle communications with patients, physicians, and pharmacies to address inquiries and needs.
  • Coordinate patient care with team members effectively.
  • Communicate referral requests to the appropriate staff for processing.
  • Assist in obtaining necessary insurance authorizations for treatments.
  • Schedule surgical appointments and assist with coding for office visits.
  • Complete and manage surgery-related paperwork.
  • Travel between various office locations as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Hourly Rate: $25

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with electronic medical records is advantageous, though not mandatory.
  • Familiarity with Allscripts EMR is a plus.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

  • Typical clinical office and examination room setting.
  • Frequent standing, typing, and managing patient information.
  • Ability to file and track documents in both written and electronic formats.
  • Physical ability to lift and carry up to 15 pounds regularly and occasionally up to 30 pounds.
  • Standard business hours are Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with occasional early or late hours as needed.
