About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Licensed Practical Nurse to join our team at Oceans Healthcare Opelousas. As a key member of our multidisciplinary healthcare team, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality nursing care to patients with mental health issues.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver exceptional nursing care to assigned patients, collecting data and identifying deviations from normal.
  • Assist with reassessing patients according to assignments, need, and unit protocol, under the direction of a registered nurse.
  • Accurately document all findings in the patient record and identify expected outcomes based on assessment data.
  • Effectively communicate pertinent assessment findings with other healthcare members.
  • Implement nursing care interventions identified in the individualized multidisciplinary treatment plan, using accepted standards of practice in collaboration with other healthcare providers.
  • Conduct specified bedside laboratory tests, wound care, and provide for comfort and assistance in the performance of ADLs.
  • Promote the patient's ability to cope, adapt, and/or solve situations related to illness and/or stressors.
  • Provide supportive, age-appropriate communication and culturally acceptable interventions and document special needs.
  • Provide for the safe delivery of medications in accordance with facility policies and physician orders.
  • Ensure patients are effectively assessed prior to and after medication administration.
  • Accurately communicate/documents medication doses prescribed, and provide patient education on medication administered.
  • Follow up on patient care responsibilities, communicate incomplete assignments and patient needs with other disciplines to assure continuity of care.
Requirements
  • Current, valid, and active license to practice as a Licensed Vocational/Practical Nurse in the state of employment.
  • Valid Compact licenses are also acceptable as they apply.
  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • One year of inpatient hospital experience is strongly preferred.
  • Must be able to work in high-stress environments and assess potential for patient escalation.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, to consistently achieve positive results with internal and external customers.
  • Must be highly organized, have an understanding and sensitivity to serve culturally diverse and special needs populations.
