Underground Distribution Lineman

The Underground Distribution Journeyman Lineman is a critical role within our team, responsible for constructing and maintaining underground power lines from plant/station to meter base, auxiliary facilities, and equipment for the distribution of electricity.

• Assist the Foreman with paperwork and crew management as needed.
• Perform switching procedures to isolate and insulate underground power lines.
• Splice and terminate underground power lines following proper procedures.
• Set and work on underground transformers and other devices.
• Properly phase, mark, and/or tag underground equipment.
• Set a good example for less experienced employees by following and teaching safe practices.
• Work on or around energized lines as the senior hands-on person.

• High school degree or equivalent.
• 2 years of experience.
• Class A CDL or obtain within 90 days.
• Understanding of advanced electrical principles, including knowledge of electricity and safe working practices.
• Ability to read and interpret construction prints, plans, and specifications.
• Ability to operate efficiently a bucket truck, digger truck, wire pullers, backyard machine, air compressor, and tools necessary to build/maintain power lines.
• Ability to assume full responsibility for completed work, perform routine line work without close supervision, and complete work with quality and timeliness.

• 3 or more years of experience.
• OSHA 10 certification.

This role operates in a field environment, requiring extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, lifting in awkward positions, standing, and twisting. Work is performed in inclement weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind.

The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. This position is physically active, with lifting required. Must be able to bend and lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more or 20 inches or less, with the ability to judge distance and space relationships. Precise hand-eye coordination. Ability to identify and distinguish colors.
