About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Librarian I to join our team at the Oakland Public Library. As a key member of our staff, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional customer service, leading programs and services, and collaborating with community partners to promote literacy and lifelong learning.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct public service to library patrons, modeling excellent customer service and reference skills.
  • Participate in community engagement and outreach efforts, designing and delivering innovative programs and services that meet the needs of diverse community members.
  • Coach and mentor public-facing staff in areas such as customer service, library operations, and programming.
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of a library branch or specialized program, ensuring efficient and effective service delivery.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in Library Science from an American Library Association-accredited graduate program.
  • Experience working with diverse populations, including youth, seniors, and individuals with disabilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with community partners and staff.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to meet the needs of the library and community.
