Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled RN- Wound/Hyperbaric Safety Specialist to join our team at Carle Health. As a key member of our interdisciplinary team, you will provide expertise in the management of wound, ostomy, or skin care in the Wound Center. Additionally, you will provide consultation to acute care patient care units.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide safe and effective operation of the hyperbaric chambers and system components.
  • Administer hyperbaric oxygen therapy to patients as prescribed by the hyperbaric physician.
  • Assist with monoplace patient prep and provide technical expertise to physicians and staff.
  • Process and maintain appropriate levels of hyperbaric supplies.
  • Maintain equipment maintenance and inspection files.
  • Call physicians/offices to clarify physician orders.
  • Assess patient data and interpret information to identify educational requirements.
  • Ensure wound/ostomy/skin plan of care is understood by those in the continuum of care.
  • Document patient's response to interventions.
  • Perform thorough and accurate patient assessments.
  • Consider special patient needs when delivering nursing care.
  • Evaluate patient/family cultural needs to promote comfort and compliance.
  • Evaluate patient/family cognitive skills and adjust education accordingly.
  • Possess knowledge and skills necessary to obtain adequate lab specimens for testing.
  • Perform patient bedside lab testing and associated quality control.
  • Perform department data collection, post treatment follow-up calls, and quality reviews.
  • Understand NFPA guidelines specific to hyperbaric chambers.
  • Provide effective and quality wound care education and documentation.
  • Maintain knowledge of skin care, wound, and ostomy trends, standards, and education.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of required nursing care for individual procedures/treatments.
  • Provide accurate patient education and discharge instructions.
  • Facilitate product evaluation for ostomy and wound/skin care products.
  • Work collaboratively with staff nurses.
  • Utilize the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
  • Timely document teaching efforts and outcomes.


Requirements:
  • 1-3 years of experience in a medical/surgical clinical setting.
  • Basic knowledge of wound, ostomy, and skin care management.
  • Demonstrated clinical expertise and ability to function without direct supervision.
  • Advanced English skills, including reading, writing, and oral communication.
  • Ability to respond appropriately to customer/co-worker interactions.
  • Maintain confidential information.
  • Ability to communicate only the facts to recipients or decline to reveal information.
  • Ability to project a professional, friendly, helpful demeanor.
  • Basic computer knowledge, including word processing, spreadsheet, email application, and web browser.
